    Auto Color Sum Bars
     (5 votes)

I'm having an issue with auto color. When I use the fast track Auto-sum bar (ctrl-shift-s) the sum bar is black even though I have auto color on and my setting for inputs is blue. Isn't a sum bar considered an input? I could use my blue/black color smartcycle (ctrl ; ) but is there a way to have them be blue automatically?

    Thanks!

The AutoColor feature by default only operates on cells that contain numbers or formulas.  The cell containing the sum bar itself does not contain any data, so AutoColor does not categorize this as an input.  There is an option setting to expand AutoColor operation to non-numeric cells.  If you go to FastTrack > User Settings, on the General Tab you'll see checkboxes for "AutoColor cells on entry" and "AutoColor text".  If you check both of them, then cells containing textual data--including sum bars--will be treated as inputs.

Note also that once you've checked the "AutoColor text" box, you can turn off AutoColor on entry and the other AutoColor operations (AutoColor selection, AutoColor sheet) will still color text as inputs.

Oh, I get it- It's just a cell with one space in it formatted with underline. But I see that in order for the Auto-Color to work not only do you need to have "AutoColor text" on, but you need to enter a space before doing ctrl-shift-s. I guess the best set of keystrokes would be space->enter->up arrow->(ctrl-shift-s) or as I said before (ctrl-shift-s)-> ctrl ; (semicolon) twice.

     Thanks...
